DME Racing ZX14 Oil Pressure Relief Valves
DME Racing ZX14 Oil Pressure Relief Valves
Our Billet High-pressure oil relief valve increases oil pressure throughout the engine to ensure proper lubrication. Catastrophic engine failures are most commonly caused by a loss in oil to key components. Rod and main bearings are prime examples of that, as are cam buckets, cam lobes, and the transmission. Our oil pressure valve helps to reduce this by increasing oil pressure from the standard of 70psi to over 110psi to keep oil moving and is used by top engine builders.

What Does an Oil Pressure Relief Valve Do?
In a motorcycle, the oil pressure relief valve serves the same fundamental purpose as in any internal combustion engine. It regulates and controls the oil pressure to ensure the engine’s proper lubrication and prevent damage to engine components.
The oil pressure relief valve in a motorcycle performs the following functions:
- Pressure Regulation: As the motorcycle engine runs, the oil pump circulates oil through the engine to lubricate moving parts, such as the crankshaft, camshaft, pistons, and valve train. The oil pump generates pressure as it operates, and this pressure can vary based on engine speed, load, and other factors.
- Preventing Overpressure: The oil pressure relief valve is designed to open when the oil pressure reaches a predetermined maximum level. This is crucial because if the oil pressure becomes too high, it can lead to oil leaks, damage engine seals, or even cause catastrophic failure in extreme cases. By opening, the relief valve allows excess oil to bypass the main oil galleries and reduce the pressure to a safe level.
- Maintaining Adequate Lubrication: On the other hand, when the engine is idling or running at low speeds, the oil pressure may drop. In such situations, the spring-loaded relief valve closes, preventing too much oil from bypassing. This ensures that minimum oil pressure is maintained to properly lubricate engine components even during low-speed operation.
- Protection Against Oil System Blockage: The oil pressure relief valve also acts as a safeguard against potential blockages in the oil system. Suppose there’s a restriction or clog in the oil passages. In that case, the relief valve can help prevent a sudden loss of oil pressure, allowing the engine to continue operating until the issue is addressed.
Overall, the oil pressure relief valve in a motorcycle is a critical component that ensures proper engine lubrication and helps protect the engine from potential damage due to fluctuations in oil pressure. Regular maintenance, including oil changes at recommended intervals, is essential to keep the oil pressure relief valve and the entire lubrication system in good working condition.
